Online fashion commerce platform Ajio started to contribute more than 25 percent to Reliance Industries’ apparel businesses, chairman Mukesh Ambani stated during the 44th annual general assembly of the company on June 24.

He said that Ajio is now responsible for over 25% of our apparel sales. The company’s total apparel business, which includes around 5K units per day, equates to more than 18M units in the financial year ending March 2021.

Ajio was launched in 2016 and boasts a portfolio of more than 2,000 brands and labels, with over 5 lakh listings on its platform.

A recent report from brokerage firm Goldman Sachs shows that Ajio has managed to surpass Myntra as the leader in online fashion in monthly app downloads.

It also competes against horizontal players like Flipkart and Amazon, which have been trying to increase their online fashion retail sales for the past few years.

According to the above report, Reliance Retail, which owns Ajio is India’s largest retailer by market share. It is also a market leader in food & groceries, electronics, fashion & apparel. These three categories account for 76 percent in India’s retail market.

Except for electronics, Reliance, organised retail, and overall, Reliance still have a significant chance to gain share in the unorganised, fragmented market. This is especially true in grocery and fashion where RIL continues to concentrate on Tier 2/3 cities. The global e-commerce market will reach $119 billion in 2025, with more than $14 billion of incremental gross merchandise value growth (GMV), coming from India’s apparel and footwear segments.

Ajio Business For B2B ( Business To Business ):

Chairman Mukesh Ambani, of Reliance Industries, stated today that Reliance Retail would create a digital marketplace for small retailers to transact online.

Ambani stated that the Reliance digital marketplace platform will be available to millions of small retailers. It will provide them with a better supplier base, product range, supply chain productivity, digital payment capabilities, connectivity to customers, and credit capability. Reliance already has ‘Reliance Market” B2B shops.

Ambani stated that Reliance Retail’s fashion and lifestyle categories would launch their ecommerce portals before the end of this year. Reliance Retail offers fashion and lifestyle options such as Reliance Jewels, Reliance Trends, Reliance Digital, durables and electronics, Reliance Digital Fashion, Reliance Footprint, and Reliance Trends. Ambani stated that Reliance Retail’s grocery-focused portal www.reliancefreshdirect.com will be launched in other markets after a pilot project in Mumbai.
